Concha Racing finishes first Rally America event at STPR®

First-time driver John Concha, of Phildelphia, Pa., piloted his 2011 Ford Fiesta to his very first Rally America finish at the Waste Management Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally® on June 1-2 in Wellsboro, Pa., despite last minute changes with finding an available co-driver that threatened the team from even starting.

The regular co-driver, Joe McGrody, was not able to compete with John Concha due to work schedule difficulties. Instead Concha tapped his family and brought his cousin, John Duran, to the event. Duran had previous co-driving experience having participated at STPR the previous year with Anthony Concha (John Concha’s brother) where they failed to finish in their 2001 Ford Focus.

The STPR was also the first competition the 2011 Ford Fiesta has seen. Concha brought a brand new Ford Feista to the Team O’Neil Rally School to have it prepared for rally racing. The team picked up the car directly from O’Neil’s a week before the event and made some last-minute adjustments before arriving.

“Going into STPR our goal was to finish the event,” Concha said. “A trophy finish would be extra.”

Concha took home a third place in the Finger Lakes Regional Rally, which provided the encouragement he needed to prove that he has the skills to compete. He considers STPR a great learning experience and valuable seat time to prepare for future events.

Concha’s next endeavor will be the U.S. Rallycross Series to be held at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J., on July 21.

Concha thanks his main sponsors Romero Towing and Pinos Service Center as well as the people who supported them through their eBay promotion, which placed supporters name on the hood of the Ford Fiesta. You can follow John Concha on Facebook or Twitter.
